Winter workshops offer practical advice and skills to drivers

Transport for Buckinghamshire, in partnership with the Fire Service and GEM Motoring Assist, is once again running Winter Driving Workshops ahead of the cold weather.

The workshops will be held in locations across the county, which this year includes Buckingham and Gerrards Cross Fire Stations due to demand for sessions in the north and south of the county in previous years.

Workshop times and dates:
Tuesday 21st November 2017 Buckingham Fire Station
Thursday 23rd November 2017 Kwik Fit, High Wycombe
Tuesday 28th November 2017 STS Tyre Pros, Aylesbury
Thursday 30th November 2017 STS Tyre Pros, Chesham
Tuesday 12th December 2017 Gerrards Cross Fire Station

The workshop, which will be from 7 – 8.30pm, includes advice for driving on winter roads, what to do if you break down, preparing your car for winter, and some practical guidance such as checking tyres, and changing a wheel. All attendees will also see a demonstration of basic vehicle checks from experienced garage technicians.

County Councillor Mark Shaw, Cabinet Member for Transportation, praised the workshops for providing important skills for all drivers:

“We don’t know what kind of weather we’re in for yet, but we’re doing all we can at the county council to be ready for winter! Drivers should be preparing too – it’s about more than just ice or snow on the roads. Damp roads can be a hazard as well, and your car needs to be ready for the colder weather. I recommend all local drivers seriously consider coming along to take part.”

The workshop costs £5 per person and includes a free winter car pack. For more information or to book your place contact TfB’s road safety team at roadsafety@buckscc.gov.uk or call 01296 382416.
